Perceptual ang cognitive representations in the human brain
Our everyday life is supported by perceptual and cognitive brain functions that process complex and diverse information obtained from sensory systems and generate purposive behaviors. Recent advances in neural activity measurement and multivariate analysis techniques have led to a quantitative understanding of the brain functions that support such complex and diverse information processing. In particular, by constructing predictive models that govern the relationship between human experience and brain activity, we have examined representations and functional structures of the brain and built decoders of brain information related to diverse experiences, including vision, semantics, emotion, and cognition. In this colloquium, I will introduce some of our recent studies on quantitative neurosciences and their prospects.
