Elucidation and application of human motor memory formation: Behavioral studies

Human movement is classified as procedural memory. How such implicit memories are formed in the brain has been elucidated by neuroscientific and behavioral approaches in a complementary manner. So far, much research has been conducted on arm reaching task because it contains essences of motor control for its simplicity, but it is still insufficient to apply it to real world problems. In this talk, I will introduce two recent studies on continuous movements such as walking and driving: 1) the delay characteristics of the controlled object is not necessarily acquired in the brain as time, and 2) the gait motor memory can be experimentally manipulated.
