Elucidation of the mechanism of cell-to-cell communication via osteoblast-derived extracellular vesicles

Bone remodeling is constantly taking place in different parts of the body throughout life to maintain the integrity of the bone architecture and systemic mineral homeostasis. It is a continuous process where osteoclasts remove mineralized bone, followed by osteoblasts forming new bone. Here, we notably observed the dynamics of extracellular vesicles of osteoblasts using an intravital imaging technique and found the cell-to-cell communication between osteoblasts via extracellular vesicles in the living mice. We will present the latest data about the osteoblast-derived extracellular vesicles on bone formation.
