Development of a novel therapeutic drug that enhances ATP production by targeting G0S2 protein degradation

The heart is required to respond promptly to the constantly changing demand of blood supply and consumes the most energy (ATP) of all organs in the human body. However, the regulatory mechanism of ATP production largely remains unknown. We identified “G0S2” as a regulatory protein of energy production. G0S2 enhances energy production under hypoxia via binding to the Complex V (ATP synthase). We have also revealed the therapeutic potential of G0S2 for ischemic diseases from the functional analysis using zebrafish. Today I’m going to talk about the recent data of the mechanism of G0S2 protein degradation. In addition, I will talk about the screening of small compounds that enhance ATP production by inhibiting G0S2 degradation.
