May 24, 2025 (Saturday)

We went on a bus trip. This event was held with the intention of providing an opportunity for not only international students to interact with each other, but also for international students and Japanese students to connect. This time, we visited Mt. Hiei in Shiga Prefecture.

  • All on board, now let's go!
  • A heartwarming welcome board created by the guide welcomed us.
  • The guide showed us where weʼre headed on this bus trip using her handmade materials.
  • Introducing to each other through a game was a fun icebreaker activity.
  • We chose one of the strings, and it had a number. According to the number, we introduced ourselves to each other.
  • The two of the strings out of many had a 100 yen coin for striking a bell at Enryaku-ji Temple. Letʼs get the lucky 100 yen coins!
  • The professional guide gave us a mini-lecture on Kyoto using her handmade materials.
  • Arrived in Kyoto! At the Kyoto Handicraft Center, we tried the traditional craft.
  • Everybody worked on Shippoyaki the traditional Japanese cloisonné enamelware. The advisor for international students joined us, and he also took photos of this trip for us.
  • It was exciting to make a one-of-a-kind Shippoyaki accessory!
  • So focused on working:)
  • The shippoyaki pieces were getting heated. It was thrilling to see how it would turn out!
  • Ta-da! Check out these freshly made original Shippoyaki key chains. There seemed to be our favorite Dr. Wani!
  • Next destination was Shiga Prefecture. Before the next activity, we had lunch at a cozy Japanese restaurant.
  • We enjoyed a traditional Japanese-style lunch.
  • We passed through Hieizan Driveway and arrived at Enryaku-ji Temple.
  • Itʼs time to explore the World Heritage site of Enryaku-ji Temple.
  • Although it was raining, wandering around the temple was fun because everyone was here!
  • Striking a bell at the temple for the first time with that 100 yen earlier.
  • Enryakujiʼs main hall - a 400-year-old National Treasure now undergoing a 10-year renovation.
  • It was overwhelming to see the beautiful architecture inside.
  • A lecture about the history of the temple was given from the guide.
  • We had to leave the garden because of the severe weather:( Hope we can make it back to the garden on a sunny day someday!
  • Thank you so much for joining this trip, everyone! We hope that this event was where people bonded with each other:)
