Life on earth propagates by cell divisions. This universal process culminates in the segregation of duplicated genomes, often in the form of chromosomes, over two nascent daughter cells. Chromosome segregation is a visually mesmerizing process in which events are precisely orchestrated in space and time to ensure that daughter cells receive identical sets of chromosomes. Errors in this process are detrimental to embryonic development and are a major source of the genome alterations that drive cancer. We use various imaging approaches and diverse model systems to understand the molecular mechanisms that are responsible for orchestrating chromosome segregation. I will present these ongoing efforts as well as our attempts to uncover the causes of chromosome segregation errors in disease.

If you want to speak Dr. Kops in person, please let me know. I will arrange the Interview with him.
