Dormant cells (e.g., spores of fission yeast) sense changes of surrounding environment, which somehow leads to dormancy breaking to enter division cycles. To understand the underlying mechanisms, we employed a multi-NGS approach comprising single-cell RNA-seq (Tsuyuzaki et al. Nature communications 2020) and chromatin ATAC-seq and found that histone is a key for dormancy breaking. In combination with our preliminary observations regarding autophagy, we would like to discuss how cells break dormancy.
