Surface plasmon sensor system based on Fano resonance for monitoring intermolecular interactions
Intermolecular interactions are of critical importance in various scientific fields, especially in medicine and immunology. The detection of intermolecular interactions such as antigen-antibody interactions is widely applied to basic research, clinical diagnosis, and development of therapeutic drugs. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is a simple, rapid, and label-free method to monitor intermolecular interactions such as antigen-antibody interactions by measuring the shift of SPR angle due to the refractive index change of the sensing surface. Conventional SPR sensors using a Kretschmann configuration with a gold thin film coated on a glass substrate as the sensing surface have limited sensitivity due to board resonance caused by absorption loss of gold thin film. In this presentation, we will introduce Fano resonance-based SPR using a multilayer system consisting of SF11/Ag/SiO2/TiO2 to improve the sensitivity of conventional SPR based on Kretschmann configuration for the measurement of intermolecular interactions such as antigen-antibody interactions.
