From the screening system of protein degradation to the development of novel anti-cancer agents

We are working to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of energy metabolism in the heart and to develop new therapeutic agents. In the process, we have developed a high-throughput screening system for protein degradation and devised the development of new ATP production-enhancing agents. Given that this screening system can be applied to a wide range of fields, we have recently initiated collaborative research with the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Graduate School of Medicine, to develop new anti-cancer agents for colorectal cancer. In this colloquium, we will introduce the recently revealed mechanism of colorectal cancer onset and progression, together with the screening of novel proteolysis inhibitors.
