Genetic dissection of scientific presentation
Scientific presentation is an integral component of research activity. Not only is it an occasion to disseminate research achievements, but also a great opportunity to obtain valuable feedback from the audience. But even when the presentation is prepared meticulously, it can result in depressing responses such as "I couldn't get the message" or "I couldn't follow the story at all". How does this happen? In this seminar I will describe potential causes of such responses by dissecting "structural components" of scientific presentations. Two essential components will be introduced: "Key Question" and "Perspective Frame". I will demonstrate how mutations (or variations) in such components can affect how the presentation will be perceived
