We provide multiple discussion chances about your research and various hot topics link to interdisciplinary research. During these courses you exchange your ideas with participants from varieties of fields and it might bring you new insights. On the middle day of retreat, you will have excursion to enjoy traditional events or sightseeing in Japan.

We ask all participants to prepare a poster (See also Applicant’s preparation.) outlining their research. You can discuss your research with people from different fields. You should prepare your talk and poster simple to understand for researchers in different fields, and focus on the fundamental significance of your work.

You will have an opportunity to discuss various topics, especially about interdisciplinary research. We will bring up some charming topics to discuss. You would find many interesting idea and thinking way through various perspectives. Discussion in culture of diversity would bring you the exiting moment.

We organize special lectures of experts to be active in the front lines in the world. The speaker is selected through the organizing committee of students (of Osaka U).

Dr. Ayaka Nakauchi actively works as a Science Communicator at International Public Communications Office of Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Kyoto University. She has been bringing a passion into public engagement in science since becoming fascinated by it while as a genetics student at Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo. In this seminar, she would talk about "How to share science with the public" from her experiences.

Dr. Shinpei Yamaguchi took a Ph.D. at the Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University at 2010. He joined Yi Zhang’s Lab in University of North Carolina (later moved to Harvard Medical School) as a postdoc at 2011. He published two studies about the function of Tet1 in meiosis and genomic imprinting to Nature within a couple of years!

He has been a promising researcher as an assistant professor of Nakano Laboratory at the Graduate School of Frontier BioSciences, Osaka University since 2015. We are very much looking forward to hearing his excellent research, consistent passion to his research field (epigenetics), and his career in abroad. His talk would provide us good hints to think about our research career.

You will explore the sights of Kyoto. You simply enjoy our wonderful and traditional culture with your new friends at relaxed atmosphere.

  • Please prepare a poster (A0 size) and 6 copies of handouts (A4 size) in English
  • A0 size: Horizontal 841mm × Vertical 1189mm. Printing slides (i.e., multiple A4) is also OK but don't make a poster horizontally.
  • You use handouts (smaller size of posters) for your group discussion. You make 6 copies of smaller size of your posters (A4 size).
  • Please prepare a poster that can be easily understood by researchers outside your own field.
