Before starting my message I would like to remember all the people who lost their lives to the Tohoku Earthquake and pray for the recovery of all those who suffered due to it.

Due to the successful exchange of ideas between young researchers during the previous years, we are very happy to announce the FBS GCOE Young Researcher Retreat (YRR) 2011 sponsored by the FBS GCOE program “Dynamics of High Order Biological Function & Systems".

The main purpose of YRR is to give young researchers at the FBS an opportunity to share their research work and ideas with researchers from different research interests for the purpose of promoting interdisciplinary research. To further strengthen our collaborative work with other institutes, we are also inviting young researchers from foreign Institutes to this year’s YRR.

This is the slogan for this year’s YRR. In order to promote interdisciplinary work, it is imperative that we understand all scientific fields more deeply. In my opinion, it is very important that we communicate our ideas with people from diverse scientific backgrounds while we are still graduate students or young researchers. I believe such an experience will enhance the understanding of our subject and also promote fusion research in the coming years.

In this year’s YRR, we will try our best to provide you with a program that will give you ample opportunity to understand different dimensions of science. Having scientists from diverse scientific and cultural backgrounds, we hope to have stimulating discussions and of course lots of fun. I hope you will make new friends and find opportunity to promote your future fusion research in this YRR.
