Elucidation of the function of novel cartilage-related gene

In the bone, there are two types of cartilage, articular cartilage and growth plate. Articular cartilage is located at the ends of bones and shows smooth motions, while growth cartilage is responsible for bone growth. The abnormalities in articular cartilage cause impaired joint movement, while abnormalities in growth cartilage cause skeletal dysplasia. Sometimes, the mutations of cartilage-related genes result in abnormal cartilage and skeletal development. Although various cartilage-related genes have been identified using genetically engineered mice, there may be important genes that have not yet been identified. In this study, we identified genes that are highly expressed in cartilage using RNAseq analysis that we have examined. Then, we have generated KO mice, been investigating their phenotype and elucidating their behind mechanisms using scRNAseq analysis. In this seminar, we will introduce our study.
