(Title) Report on Attendance and Poster Presentation at Gordon Research Conference 2010, Sensory Transduction in Microorganisms.

(Purpose) To discuss with excellent researchers and have poster presentation at GRC 2010 on Sensory Transduction in Microorganisms

(Schedule)
1/24: Departed from Osaka to Ventura, CA, US
1/24-29: Attended GRC, Sensory Transduction in Microorganisms
1/25-26: Poster Presentation
1/29-30: Departed from Ventura and arrived in Osaka.

(Result)
 Gordon Research Conference on Sensory Transduction in Microorganisms was held in Ventura, CA, US. It was a 5-days meeting attended by about 150 researchers. I was able to gain the precious opportunities to hear the latest research reports by 60 speakers and talk with them. Although many of the talks weren't directly related with my work, I was impressed by the quality of their research and came up with a new idea.
  About 100 posters were presented in the poster session. I presented my own poster with the title "Functional analysis of conserved charged residues of FlhA, an export gate component of type III secretion system
". I showed that an acidic residue of FlhA, which is one of membrane proteins consisting export apparatus, are essential for protein export function and similarity of the two different nanomachines, protein export apparatus and ATP synthase. I was able to discuss with many scientists about my results and got very good suggestions from them. During this conference, I also got to know new techniques and was able to get new ideas to carry out my future works. Finally I thank the Global COE Program (System Dynamics of Biological Function), Osaka University for financial support.
