Master's Degrees
The Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences allow students to terminate their 5 year Ph.D. program prematurely and instead graduate with a master's degree. This is conditioned on a minimum number of credits and passing a final examination. The exam, normally in February of the graduating year, is normally an oral presentation of the candidate's research followed by a question and answer session.
Important points regarding the Doctorate Degree
For completion of the doctorate degree, a doctoral dissertation is submitted and judged by a selected group of faculty.
Before the final defense, there will be a preliminary evaluation of the dissertation to evaluate and advise the candidate's progress.
One can choose from which department they receive their degrees (sciences or engineering).
Early graduation
If the department agrees, students can earn their doctorate in less than the allotted five years normally required.
