Details and future prospects:
The Gordon research conference is the international conference for the
discussions and presentations of frontier science and consists of several
sessions each year. My participated session, gFibronectin, Integrins
and Related moleculesh, was held in Ventura, CA, from 1/30 to 2/4.
Almost 150 researchers attended to this meeting from all over the world,
and had several presentations and discussions, related to above molecules,
such as Integrin structure, signaling, cell migrations and so on. My
current research topic is the diverse set of synaptic cadherins, CNR/Pcdh
family, which is an attractive candidate for neural network organization.
Our recently determined structure of this protein suggested the possibility
of newly observed integrin-association through its EC1 RGD motif. Revealing
unknown function of CNR/Pcdh should be an acute task to understand
complexity of neural networks, and structural analysis of CNR/Pcdh
will provide important insights into its adhesive property. In this
conference, I could discuss our research with various researchers,
not only neuroscientists, and have lots of useful suggestions. Besides,
I could broaden my current knowledge of integrins and related molecules
through various presentations. Actually, this was the first time for
me to attend such an international conference. Though my English was
so poor, everyone kindly discussed with me in a relaxed atmosphere
during every lunch, dinner and poster presentation time. This experience
encouraged me to acquire more accuracy and fluency in English speaking.
Also, several useful advice and discussion will help my future research
to understand how these molecules: Integrins, CNR/Pcdh and related
molecules, contribute to organize complexity of the brain. I am so
glad to join the meeting and appreciate the COE financial support for
my participation to this meeting.
